A spring day in the heart of nature!
Spring is a season of renewal and exploration, especially for the curious young pupils of New School Lyon. We had the pleasure of organising an educational outing to the Essarts forest, a memorable moment for our pupils from kindergarten through to Year 6. This outing was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to immerse themselves in nature and learn in an interactive, sensory way.
Discovery and awakening of the senses
The Essarts forest, with its vast green spaces and rich biodiversity, was the ideal playground for our young explorers. The children were able to touch the first spring buds, symbols of nature's rebirth. This tactile activity not only helped them understand the life cycle of plants, but also awakened their sense of touch against the variety of textures nature has to offer.
A natural symphony
One of the highlights of this outing was listening to the great tits. Their melodious songs filled the air with natural music, captivating our pupils, who learned to recognise and appreciate these joyful melodies. Hearing these bird songs was an excellent introduction to environmental awareness and the importance of conserving natural habitats.
Observation and science in the field
Earthworms, often overlooked, sparked great interest among our young budding scientists. Observing these creatures in their natural habitat helped the children understand their crucial role in the ecosystem, particularly in fertilising and aerating the soil.
Outdoor creativity
The highlight of the outing was undoubtedly the drawing activity with flowers. The children used petals and leaves to create ephemeral works of art - a way of building their creativity while respecting the environment. This outdoor artistic activity allowed each child to express their unique vision of the natural world.
Singing under the sun
Finally, nothing beats singing together under the sun to strengthen the spirit of camaraderie and joy among the pupils. The cheerful, lively songs chosen brought this day to a beautiful close, leaving lasting memories in our children's hearts.
This outing to the Essarts forest was a complete success and a rich experience, with lively, interactive lessons. It allowed the children of New School Lyon to connect with nature while learning in a playful and meaningful way. We are convinced that these hands-on experiences are essential to children's overall development, and we are already looking forward to the next adventures that spring has in store!
