Bilingual preschool · TPS to GS (age 2-6)
Entering two languages within a clear framework
From toute petite section to grande section, in a 50% / 50% bilingual environment
Preschool is the first moment when a child learns to live at school. At New School, it is not only a place of awakening: it is the beginning of a structured, bilingual journey adapted to each child's age.

The essentials
Everything you need to know about bilingual preschool
At what age can my child start preschool at New School?
From age 2 (TPS, toute petite section), provided they have turned 2 by the start of the school year. A half-day TPS option is available to ease the transition into school with flexibility.
How many children per class in preschool?
22 to 25 students maximum per class, with at least a teacher and an assistant. 27 hours of weekly teaching delivered by a French-speaking teacher, an English-speaking teacher and a PE teacher.
Do we need to speak English at home?
No. The bilingual preschool is designed for francophone, anglophone or multilingual children. Routines, day alternation and adult attention allow each child to enter both languages.
What are the preschool hours?
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 9am-12pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm. Wednesday morning: 9am-12pm. Drop-off from 7:45am included. Evening care included until 5pm, available until 6:30pm (additional fee).
Day-by-day bilingual model
Structured bilingualism from the youngest age
The week is organised around an alternation between days in French and days in English. Wednesday mornings alternate one week in two (one week in French, one week in English).
- Full days in French
- Full days in English
- French and English teachers (native or internationally-trained)
- Common routines to secure children
- A progression built around language, autonomy and socialisation

What we work on
Much more than « learning through play »
At New School, preschool is demanding in its own way. We work explicitly on the foundational skills that structure the children's future schooling.
Oral language in French and English
Listening, comprehension and following instructions
First mathematical landmarks
Fine and gross motor skills
Autonomy in everyday gestures
Living in a group: waiting, sharing, cooperating, asking, repairing
Cultural curiosity: festivals, stories, songs, traditions
Confidence within a stable adult framework

A kind framework, but a real one
Preschool needs structure, not vagueness
At New School, preschool is not « framework-free ». Children gradually learn the rules that allow everyone to feel safe, learn and feel recognised.
PBIS makes these expectations visible: how to move around, how to listen, how to speak to a peer, how to ask for help, how to take care of materials.
