Elementary
As in nursery school, children have 27 hours of lessons a week, divided equally between French and English.
Now that the children are able to express themselves spontaneously in English, they use it to discuss geography, history, science, art, sport and other manual activities..
Reading and writing are initially taught in French, in order to consolidate the basics.
The New School primary schools in Lyon places particular emphasis on group activities, such as drama and preparation for parties and the end-of-year show. In this way, each pupil develops his or her intellectual abilities, social skills and ability to interact within a group.
The programme
Students will have 27 hours of lessons a week taught by a French-speaking teacher, an English-speaking teacher and a sports teacher.
Part of the programme is dedicated to in-depth language study, with lessons based on audiovisual aids. The children also keep an activity book, which is updated after each lesson, and work on worksheets and reading books.
Sporting, artistic and cultural activities are also considered an integral part of the pupils' education. Coding lessons, swimming, climbing and museum visits are all part of life at New School.
Artistic activities include pottery, painting, an introduction to music theory, piano lessons (Amadeus mini conservatory) and drama classes taught by Anglo-Saxon teachers.
Visits to English-speaking countries are organised during the school holidays to introduce an international dimension to pupils' schooling.
