How private bilingual primary schools work
Like state schools, private bilingual primary schools cover classes from the youngest preschool year through to Year 6.
Some private primary schools are under contract with the State; others are outside contract. A private school under contract with the State receives subsidies and is required to follow the official national curriculum. What's more, teachers regularly take part in checks organised by the national education ministry.
Private primary schools under and outside contract
A distinction must be made between private primary schools under contract and private primary schools outside contract. Private primary schools outside contract may not follow the national curriculum, or may follow it differently.
The State does not subsidise private schools outside contract; their tuition fees are mostly funded by private sources. Their only obligation is to ensure pupils progress through a shared base of skills, knowledge, and culture.
Private primary schools under contract - of which New School is one - do receive subsidies from the State to pay teachers and fund activities linked to the national curriculum. The tuition fees paid by parents fund activities that are not part of the official school programme, as well as certain equipment. Tuition fees at a private primary school under contract with the State are much more accessible than at schools outside contract. There are also so-called "simple contract" schools, where only classes under contract have their teachers paid by the State.
The benefits of a private bilingual primary school
The curriculum of a private school under contract is the same as that of a state school.
At New School, second-language teaching is delivered by native or English-speaking teachers. Each of our teachers holds a specific specialism in the field of language learning.
Supervision is also an essential component of our educational project, both during and outside lessons. We offer children after-school support to help them progress (supervised and guided study).
Children can thus grow in an environment suited to comprehensive and varied learning.
New School places particular importance on healthy, balanced eating. We prepare the meals in our canteen with organic and/or locally sourced products.
