This celebration, part of the Chinese New Year tradition, offers an exceptional opportunity for pupils to discover and celebrate the cultural richness and traditions of another part of the world.
What is the Year of the Dragon?
The Chinese zodiac, a 12-year cycle, includes the Year of the Dragon among its representative animals, where one animal represents each year. The dragon, the only mythical animal in this zodiac, symbolises strength, luck, and health. Being born during the Year of the Dragon is considered very auspicious and is associated with qualities of leadership and ambition. The celebration of the Year of the Dragon is a major event in many Asian cultures, accompanied by festivities including parades, fireworks, traditional dances, and much more.
The celebration at New School Lyon
To mark this special event, New School Lyon organised a series of educational and playful activities that allowed the children to immerse themselves in Chinese culture. Through art workshops, pupils had the opportunity to learn about the importance of the dragon in Chinese culture and to explore the various traditions associated with the Chinese New Year.
