Halloween at New School Lyon
At New School Lyon, we believe in the importance of opening the doors of cultural discovery to our pupils. In October, we dive into the lively, mysterious atmosphere of Halloween, a festival rooted in American culture.
The origin of Halloween in the United States
Although Halloween has Celtic and European roots, the United States has helped popularise this festival around the world. The American tradition of Halloween dates back to the 19th century, when Irish and Scottish immigrants brought their Samhain customs to America. Over the decades, the festival evolved to become the event we know today.
Creative costumes
One of the most iconic features of Halloween in the United States is the tradition of costumes. At New School Lyon, our pupils have the chance to slip into the skin of their favourite characters, whether superheroes, monsters, princesses, or even historical figures. Our pupils donned their costumes, but they also had the opportunity to show them off proudly during our Fantastic Halloween Parade!
The Fantastic Halloween Parade
The Fantastic Halloween Parade at New School Lyon is the highlight of our celebration. Our pupils and their teachers are invited to take part. The corridors of our school turned into a parade of fantastic creatures, superheroes, and imaginary characters.
Learning through immersion
We believe that learning through cultural immersion is essential to building an understanding of the world around us. By exploring Halloween, our pupils discover:
the customs,
the history,
and the creativity that make this festival a unique celebration in the United States.
It's an exciting opportunity to explore a different culture, strengthen the bonds within our educational community, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
