The story of Thanksgiving
Pilgrim Fathers, who boarded the Mayflower from England, left for America to seek a better life.
It was a long time ago, in the year 1620. They landed in Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts. Not knowing how to work the land, many of them perished, and it was the Native Americans of the Wampanoag tribe who taught them how to fish, hunt, grow corn, and raise turkeys.
To thank the Native Americans, the pilgrims organised a great celebration named "Thanksgiving", meaning "thank you for helping us".
Since then, every fourth Thursday in November, this celebration of Thanksgiving has been observed in the United States in memory of these Native Americans, expressing the full value of mutual support and sharing.
That's why, every year, we organise Thanksgiving at New School Lyon, a shared snack in memory of these pilgrims.
