Thanksgiving at New School Lyon

New School Lyon: Thanksgiving!

The history of Thanksgiving

Pilgrims (Pilgrim Fathers) boarded the Mayflower from England and set off for America in search of a better life.

Long ago, in 1620, they landed in Plymouth Bay in Massachusetts. However, as they did not know how to make the land bear fruit, many of them perished, and it was the Indians of the Wampanoag tribe who taught them to fish, hunt, grow corn and raise turkeys.

To thank the Indians, the pilgrims organised a great feast called "Thanksgiving", meaning "Thank you for helping us".

Since then, every 4th Thursday in November, Thanksgiving has been celebrated in the United States in memory of these Indians, expressing the value of helping and sharing.

That's why, every year, we organise a Thanksgiving feast at New School Lyon in memory of these pilgrims.
