Dear Parents
Thanksgiving is approaching... It will be celebrated on Thursday 23 November 2023
The story of Thanksgiving:
In 1620, around a hundred English dissenters, known today as the Pilgrim Fathers, boarded the Mayflower from England. They set off for America in search of a better life. They landed in Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts. However, as they did not know how to make the land bear fruit, many of them perished, and it was the Indians of the Wampanoag tribe who taught them how to fish, hunt, grow corn and raise turkeys. To thank them for their help, the English colonists organised a great feast called THANKSGIVING ("thank you for helping us"). They then invited the chief of the Wampanoags and his men to come and share their meal. Since then, every 4th Thursday in November, this festival has been celebrated in the United States in memory of these Indians, expressing the value of mutual aid and sharing.
To celebrate Thanksgiving, we are organising a potluck lunch in the classrooms on Thursday 23 November. We are therefore asking all parents to give their children a snack to share on that day:
- industrial cakes
- biscuits
- dried fruit
- fresh fruit
- drink
The tea party will take place on the afternoon of Thursday 23 November in a joyful and festive atmosphere in each class, and by then the English teachers will have reminded their pupils or parents of the importance of this event.
introduces new pupils to this festival of friendship, joy and sharing. In the canteen at lunchtime on typical Thanksgiving meal will be on the menu for the children and the team, with a few must-try dishes: corn salad/cheddar cake, spiced chicken fillet/spiced pollack, baked potato and sweet potato duo/butternut purée.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!
