Outing to Les Essarts wood

Outing to Les Essarts wood

The outing to Les Essarts wood was an exceptional opportunity for our young pupils to combine theoretical learning with practical experience in the great outdoors. The trip provided an opportunity to work on mathematical concepts such as mass, division and sharing, while observing the wonders of nature.

Weight training

The children had the opportunity to manipulate various natural objects to understand the concepts of weight and mass. They collected stones, branches and leaves, then compared them to observe differences in weight. This hands-on activity made learning about mass more concrete and engaging, giving the pupils a better understanding of how to estimate and compare weights in a real-life context.

Divisions and splits

As they explored the wood, the pupils took part in divide-and-share activities. They were invited to divide natural resources, such as acorns and pine cones, into equal parts. This playful approach facilitated understanding of fractions and division, making these abstract mathematical concepts more accessible and fun.

Observe the wonders of nature

In addition to their mathematical activities, the pupils were able to observe the exceptional biodiversity of the Essarts woods. The children were able to admire a variety of plants, touch the leaves and bright summer flowers, and listen to the melodious songs of the great tit. These moments of observation awakened their curiosity and respect for nature, while reinforcing their environmental awareness.

The outing to Les Essarts wood was a memorable day, combining academic learning with immersion in nature. The activities on masses, divisions and shares were perfectly integrated into the natural environment, offering the pupils an innovative and stimulating learning method. This unique experience not only enriched their mathematical knowledge, but also allowed them to discover and appreciate the wonders of nature.
